It is a lock, as certain as Colin Campbell failing to satisfy NHL fans when he metes out punishment for a head shot: the Winnipeg Jets will be back in the National Hockey League for the 2011-2012 season. And as of March 9 2011 there was no new purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes and things were still in limbo there.

But back in January a key clue was dropped, or hidden. While Gary Bettman didn't say Winnipeg was back in at a press conference at the all-star game festivities in Raleigh, S.C. in late January of 2011, he didn't not say as much, either. He did though make it clear that if Phoenix fails then the Jets, Winnipeg, the home of Portage and Main, the coldest corner in Canada, is the destination of choice.

NHL "Trying Not to Raise Expectations in Winnipeg"

Here's a remark Bettman made about Winnipeg and the possible return of the NHL to that city in Raleigh: “We’re trying not to raise expectations in Winnipeg,” he said. “When we have something to announce we’ll announce it." That sounds like he's gonna have something to announce.
