Freedom Motorsports
Like 600 million viewers who will have watched the Brazilian Grand Prix today broadcast in over 200 countries, I am enthralled by Formula One. Competition for the world championship is intense between Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and to a lesser extent, last year’s winner Jenson Button. The surprise of Nico Hulkenberg gaining pole position added to the thrill of the race.
My favourite race is the Singapore Grand Prix that took place in September. The Singapore street circuit is in the middle of a city and the action involving the synthesis of man and machine occurs at night under floodlights. It’s a beautiful sight to behold if, like me, you appreciate the aesthetics of artificial environments as much as those provided by nature.
Of course, F1 is not to everyone’s taste. Each to their own. Sadly however there are those that fret about the environmental impact of this high-tech sport and want it severely curtailed or even banned. But their arguments are irrational.
