NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne is one of the brightest young stars on the Sprint Cup circuit. Like many of today’s top drivers, Kahne got his start in open-wheel racing.

Kahne’s Early Years in Racing

In 1997, 17-year-old Kahne started racing sprint cars at local tracks in his native Washington. He moved up to USAC sprints, winning the Midget Series title in 2000. In 2002, Kahne got his first taste of NASCAR, running 20 races for Robert Yates Racing in the Nationwide Series. After racing for Akins Motorsports in 2003 in the Nationwide Series, Kahne was signed by Evernham Motorsports to replace veteran driver and 1988 Cup Series champ Bill Elliott in the #9 Dodge.
